ReCap and PreView!

We had a fantastic first book club meeting on Saturday! We discussed the book Gone Girl and decided that the next time we meet (March 7) we will watch the movie Gone Girl. In the meantime, we are reading our next book club book, which is called Margarita Wednesdays so we can discuss it for our April meeting which will be the second Saturday in April (since the first Saturday is the night before Easter).   I am super thankful and excited for this here book club.  We had some great book conversation and some great not-so-much-about-the-book conversations. We shared food and drinks and stories.  Everybody contributed. And, for me, I thought it was just nice to be among friends who also like to read. I'm very proud to have a legit excuse for taking time away from my every day life to read again!   (The wine is good, too...)

Here are some highlights:

  • Everybody else hated the ending of Gone Girl, too!
  • Amy's parents are loony but we don't give them full credit for Amy's ...ahem... personality.
  • Sentences that include word strings like, "well when I did think Nick Dunne done it..."  make us sound really ignorant.  Thanks a bunch, Gillian Flynn!
  • We agreed that Amy's writing was annoyingly bad in the beginning of the book. We expressed how grateful we were that her writing changed in the second half. :)
  • Tanner Bolt was a fun character to reflect upon. Very realistic, we thought!
  • Nick's father had a nice role in the book. Funny(?) how he kept showing up..

Alrighty - I'm sure I missed some other GREAT points that were made! Those were just a few that I had sitting at the top of my head.

Mark your calendars for our next gatherings!  Please don't feel like you have to bring anything. I'll have some drinks and a few snacks (Popcorn and Kristie's cheese/crackers...)   Bring something if you'd like - but don't let it stress you out. We'll have plenty for everyone!

March 7, 6:30pm - Gone Girl Movie at Maggie's
April 11, 6:30pm - Discuss Margarita Wednesdays at Maggie's.

So, here's the plan, Stan...

We are going to meet on Feb 21st to discuss the book Gone Girl

Then, we are going to meet on March 7 to watch the movie Gone Girl. :)

Sound good???

The survey results from the last form CRACKED ME UP. You're a funny bunch. (and there's no way for me to know WHO said WHAT so I'm calling you all funny...)
There was no clear consensus on what to read for our next book - so we'll put that on the "invisible" agenda for our Feb 21st meeting.

See you in just a couple of weeks!

BOOOOO - rescheduling stinks!

So, we had to reschedule our first ever book club meeting. I'm so sorry!!!  Believe me, I was looking forward to it more than you'll ever know!

How's about rescheduling for the 21st? Does that work for any of you?  There's a form below to help us come to a decision...

I'm ready for a new book to read, but I also need to get Gone Girl off my chest (especially that ending!!)...

The only book suggested to me for our 2nd book club meeting thus far has been this one:
(click pic to see on Amazon)

Have you read it?

Book #1 Gone Girl

It's official! Gone Girl is our first book! We have six members in mostly-social-but-still-about-the-book Book Club! Our first meetup will be:

Feb 7 at 6:30pm at the Truitt home.
You can find Gone Girl on Amazon for just $9 (paperback) or, rumor has it, only $5 for the Kindle version. (I can't put this thing down.. I think I'll be done reading before Monday if anybody wants to borrow it!) Happy reading, see ya in a few weeks!!

Sign up Here!

Who wants to be in the club? :)

Here's an informal sign up sheet to get us started. The primary purpose of this form is to help me keep all the peeps in one place. I prefer to use e-mail and I'd feel horrible if I accidentally left anyone out of the loop, so please use this form to join our Book Club for super cool kids. Thanks :)

Book Club Meetings

Here's my vision:

- Meet the first Saturday of every month. 6:30pm to....  whenever? :)

- I'm happy to host these club meetings here at my house. And then we can decide if we should keep meeting here, or venture into different settings.  Whatev's!

- Members aspire to read the books ... Not reading will not get you evicted, so come anyway if you don't read.  Just be someone who WANTS to read the/a book (like... someday! ...Someday you'll have the time, the energy, the space, the silence in your life.. maybe right now's not that time, but someday you wanna!...) ...and you'll fit right in.

- We'll start with social time. Food, drinks, chat, friendship ....  then we'll talk about the book! (I'd aim for an hour for each and then some time afterward to just talk some more... depending on how everyone's feeling that particular night.)

- Books will be selected by interested club members... I'm hoping that maybe Gone Girl would be a fun first pick, but I'm not married to it -- I'm totally up for suggestions/vote!  Someday, I also want to read The Kite Runner, and Eat Pray Love.  There are a hundred more, but those are the ones that came to my mind right away.

- I'd like to find a group that would be somewhere between 8 and 12 friends.
